Hello my friends: I am not sure how many people has follow this blog, usually I will write about my art, my picture book making of , my drawing process. But this time I would like to write something about other people’s art.
I know china has always been a mysterious place for most of westerners. Especially in today’s political environment, I do feel my country is leaning towards more conservative policy and tends to be less open. If you don’t speak Chinese, chances are even you come to travel in china, you can only get around in Beijing or shanghai where English can be understood. However, I find that the most attractive place is always in the remote area, in big mountains where minority group lives. I am deeply attracted by their art. So today I would like to briefly share my recent trip to yunnan
Yunnan located in south west part of china, where there are many minority group. The place I am visited is in Jing Mai mountain(景迈山) . The minority group there are La Hu (拉祜族) , Dai(傣族),Bu Lang(布朗族),Ha Ni(哈尼族)they love dancing and singing , and they still kept the original way to weave bags. Each Saturday and Sunday people gather in one street to sell fresh fruits , also their crafts
Most of the minority people lives in the tea mountain and export their top quality tea leaves around the world. Some of their tea trees are even hundreds of years old.
What I found so interesting is that, the colorful art has embedded in their DNA , those beautiful bags are for everyone and it is used in their common daily life. It might seem to be little exaggerated or seem that this kind of bags are for festival. However in the market , I spot man or woman, young or old carry one of these bags( even they are not wearing the traditional cloth).
Their colorful art are in the market , in the temple , in everywhere ,so when I leave, I have to get a one of those bags. It is just so beautiful and SOFT!
I hope you enjoy today’s post, nothing fancy , just want to share those beautiful art from deep mountain in China.
